Types of Yoga
Among supporters of an active lifestyle, yoga is very popular. Few people know, however, that yoga has many unusual varieties that are worth trying at least once! We tell you more about surf yoga, dog yoga, wog, and much more.
- Dog yoga
- Surf yoga
- Aqua yoga
- Voga
- Karaoke yoga
Options for those who need a variety
Dog Yoga
If a trainer or, for example, a girlfriend can keep you company during regular yoga classes (read about the benefits of team sports), then you can bring your beloved pet to dog yoga!
The creators of doga (that's how dog yoga is called for short) have a lot of arguments in favor of their unusual practice.
Firstly, the owners get an additional opportunity to spend time with their animals.
Secondly, the presence of a pet in class helps to relieve stress and improve mood.
Thirdly, animals can become assistants in achieving better results: small dogs are quite suitable for the role of a weighting agent, and large ones will serve as good support for the owner.
Fourthly, the warm-up will not be superfluous for the dog either - those who invented the dog are convinced that pets usually do not move much, so dog yoga will correct the situation.
Surf Yoga
Surf yoga is quite an extreme type of yoga for those who have never dealt with riding waves on a board. But if you have ever tried surfing or even feel confident in this sport, surfing yoga will be an interesting experience. This practice involves performing asanas directly on the surf, swinging on the water.
Thus, surf yoga not only makes the body strong but also develops good balance with coordination. By the way, initially, surfers performed yoga exercises before swimming as a warm-up. Only later did they decide that it was possible to experiment with asanas on the water.
Aqua Yoga
It is much easier to master aqua yoga. Asanas in it are for the most part the same as in classical yoga, but they are performed in water - this reduces the load on the joints, and on the spine, therefore, the risk of injury during classes tends to zero.
Thanks to aqua yoga, the muscles are stretched and strengthened. In addition, this practice is an excellent breathing exercise. In addition to being good for the body, aqua yoga is also good for the soul – being in the water itself is relaxing and helps relieve stress after a hard day.
Voga
Are you one of those who consider dancing a great replacement for the gym? Then it will be interesting for you to try such a practice as yoga - a mixture of yoga and the dance style of vog, or voguing. The latter became widespread in the 90s after the release of Madonna's video for the song Vogue.
The basis of vog, as you can see in the same video, is the gestures and poses of the models that they use in filming for advertising and glossy pages. Juliet Murrel, who is considered the creator of the dance, decided to use its elements of asanas. And if you accompany the lessons with traditional voguing music, achieving your best form will be even more exciting.
Karaoke Yoga
Perhaps the most fun type of yoga in our selection is karaoke yoga. The idea to create such a direction of yoga came to Jennifer Pastiloff - she decided that performing asanas can be combined with singing. Firstly, it is easier to transfer the load during classes. Secondly, it's a great mood booster - who doesn't love to sing along to their favorite music artists?
It is not necessary to have a perfect ear and a melodic voice, the main thing is to put your soul into singing, then karaoke yoga classes will have the most positive effect.
As you can see, even traditional activities can be made interesting and unusual. Feel free to try new things to achieve your best shape!
